Supports Acuity's Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) demilitarization services contract in managing all aspects of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) impacts and aspects. This position works in concert with the assigned Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) safety, reports administratively to the HWAD Director of Operations, with OSH oversite from the VP of Performance Management.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and refinement of the approved Site-Specific Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs), Procedures, and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for submission/inclusion within project plans with follow-on implementation of approved plans and processes.
  • Assess and document hazards, risks, and controls in a manner consistent with established procedures and practices.
  • Conduct and/or oversee OSH training and carry-out emergency drills and exercises.
  • Monitor, inspect, and audit activities, processes, and/or procedures related to HWAD operations.
  • Clearly present inspection and audit results with identified trends, recommendations, facilitation of corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings to aid in communicating OSH requirements and in proactively addressing leading indicators to incidents.
  • Investigate incidents including near misses that have occurred, initiate required notification requirements, facilitation of corrective actions, with verification of effectiveness.
  • Complete injury logs and ensure reports are completed and submitted to related agencies.

Job Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in an occupational safety and health related field with 4yrs specific to industrial safety within an industrial manufacturing or related environment; tied to conveyors, ergonomic related impacts, confined space, an industrial truck program, and respiratory protection.
  • Have attained professional certification by Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP); other related certifications such as a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) may be considered.
  • Must possess polished verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate company practices with senior executives, project managers, clients, employees, and government officials.
  • Intermediate user level of computer systems; Microsoft office software, Adobe Acrobat, databases, and documentation control systems.
  • Must act with high ethical values and uphold corporate philosophy.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have ability to travel and effectively function in austere environments.
  • Eligible for Secret Security Clearance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside and withstand changing seasonal conditions for region.
  • Ability to use assigned Personal Protective Equipment including gloves, hard hats, respirators, etc.
  • Ability to withstand and navigate through close quartered industrial areas.
  • Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities.
  • Possess manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
