Pay Range - $38 - 43.00 Per hour

Task and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties of Testing Personnel

  • Lead the laboratory team to achieve required turnaround time.

  • Ensure that testing personnel utilize the appropriate pending reports to confirm all testing on all shifts is completed.

  • Ensures the lab staff follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results and reports any non-compliance to the appropriate leadership.

  • Assists in training on all Critical Values to ensure accuracy prior to releasing of the test results.

  • Assists leadership in the orientation and annual evaluation of all testing personnel and documentation of staff performance in all areas of responsibility.

  • Be a point of contact for testing personnel, clients, and external departments when urgent questions arise.

  • Identify and communicate problems and challenges in the workflow process to leadership and suggest solutions.

  • Ensures the efficiency of the instruments through timely preventive maintenance.

  • Work with leadership to properly document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • Monitors test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

  • Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.

  • Assists leadership in calibration of the instruments and assessing the accuracy of the equipment; and performing equipment preventive and corrective maintenance.

  • Assists leadership in the validation, correlations, and other technical methods to document instrument accuracy and precision.

  • Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and immediately reports to leadership.

  • Actively monitor email to ensure that time sensitive action is taken when necessary.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of theory behind the test performed and recognizes departure from the norm be able to understand the scientific and theoretical reasons for such deviation.

  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize work duties.

  • Assists leadership in maintaining adequate supplies and inventory levels.

  • Assists laboratory leadership in maintaining records that demonstrate that proficiency testing is performed, recorded and evaluated according to policy.

  • Recognizes the administrative changes in staffing and scheduling and adapts to these changes. Reports staff absences and schedule deviations to leadership promptly.

  • Assumes the day to day duties of the Laboratory Supervisor when required.

  • Assists leadership in preparing Monthly Levy-Jennings and other charts for monthly review.

  • Identifies and pursues self-improvement needs.

  • Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry, biology or related field.

  • One year of clinical laboratory experience.

  • Must qualify under CLIA regulations as testing personnel.

  • Must possess state licensure as testing personnel as required.
